Brazil Takes On Netherlands For Third Place
Brazil will take on the Netherlands in their final game of the 2014 Fifa World Cup at Estadio Nacional de Brasilia, Brasilia, on Saturday for the third place finish. Brazil were knocked out of the World Cup after suffering a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Germany in the first semi-final. The South American giants were the favourites to win the tournament and the host nation had the backing of its fans.
Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side were without the services of their two key players, Neymar and skipper Thiago Silva. The Barcelona forward was stretchered off during the quarter-final clash against Colombia and has been ruled out of the World Cup. Silva was suspended for the semi-final match against Germany and will lead his side for their encounter against the Netherlands on Saturday. Brazil would be hoping for a win in their final fixture and provide something for their fans to cheer after their humiliating defeat against Germany. Meanwhile, the Netherlands were knocked out of the World Cup by Brazil’s neighbors Argentina on Wednesday in the last four of the tournament. The game ended in a goalless draw after the completion of extra time, leaving the outcome of the match to be decided on penalties. The Netherlands were never the firm favourites to win the World Cup before the start of the summer event in Brazil. Their performance with a very handful of star players in the squad under the guidance of Van Gaal has seen them receive praise from several football pundits and fans. However, as the host nation, Brazil would be looking to avoid another defeat in quick succession. The match between Brazil vs Netherlands would take place at Estádio Nacional de Brasilia, Brasília tomorrow and the telecast timing would be 1.30AM Indian Standard Time.
