Bret Easton To Head Belgium’s Gent Film Fest Jury
Belgium’s Gent Film Fest Jury has chosen American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis to be the president of its international jury this year.
Artistic director Patrick Duynslaegher said, “Bret Easton Ellis is not only one of the most important and influential contemporary American writers, he’s also a real film buff who apparently devours movies daily and is open to all kinds of cinema – from European art house to Hollywood blockbusters,” He further added, “He has a substantiated opinion on everything he sees and doesn’t hesitate to take contrarian and provocative point of views. This is what makes him an ideal president of the festival jury.”
Though the ‘Less Than Zero’ author is best known for his novels that have been adapted into award-winning films, Easton Ellis has been concentrating on film in recent years. He wrote and co-produced Lindsay Lohan starer ‘The Canyons’.
Easton Ellis follows such past Gent jurors as Oscar-nominated directors like Mike Figgis, Michael Haneke and French actress Jeanne Moreau. The international jury awards prizes in the festival’s film and soundtrack categories.
For the 41st edition, the festival is paying tribute to French film, with sections devoted to both contemporary and classic films. French film promotion organization UniFrance is working with the festival to create a program of director panels, and Catherine Deneuve graces this year’s poster.
The festival runs October 14th to 25th.
