Gulaab Gang movie review
Rating: 4 out of 5 star
Star Cast: Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla
Juhi Chawla’s villainous avatar outshines Madhuri Dixit Nene’s heroic act.
After having lived in Madhuri’s shadows for all these years, Juhi strikes back with a stellar performance as a politician in Gulaab Gang.
Gulaab Gang brought the two amazing talented actress of Bollywood together for the first time. The film is total worth the watch. The story begins with the voice over of Anil Kapoor who introduces us to the world of Rajjo(Played by Madhuri Dixit). He tells us about her Struggle of getting educated in the Madhavpur village, where the girls are not allowed to study. Rajjo fights and chose a different path of her own. As she turns out to be young , she runs a Sangathan-Gulaab Gang who wear a pink saree and are pink clad feisty crusader. The entire gang are taught Lathi wielding and they together fight against social injustice. They tackle the issues of Dowry, Rape, violence, female genital mutilation, marriage by abduction, forced abortion and forced marriage. Apart from these things they also deal with the issues of basic necessities like food, electricity and water. As the film continues, the gang shifts to election war where Rajjo stands opposite to politician Soumitra (Played by Juhi Chawla). The rest of the film you would see is the ultimate fight between these two powerful ladies.
Madhuri Dixit impresses us as the leader of this Gulaab Gang. Madhuri’s action scenes blown me out. Though Madhuri enjoys more screen presence as compared to Juhi, but it’s latter we will come to know who will shine brighter.
Juhi Chawla’s act was quite suprising as well as delightful to watch. She played a mean evil politician role. Divya Jagdale (as Mahi) and Priyanka Bose (as Sandhya), were the supporting cast of the film.
Director Soumik Sen’s casting coup has not been wasted, it is surely a success. I must say, the film Gulaab Gang is truely based on real life story of Activist Sampat Pal. Director Sen deserves a pat on his back for choosing such a serious a subject.
