‘Housebound’ Gets Canadian Distribution
Horror comedy film ‘Housebound’ gets Canadian distribution. Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada and Raven Banner Entertainment have acquired the Canadian distribution rights to Housebound, the horror comedy that bowed at SXSW.
The Canadian partners plan a theatrical and home entertainment release for the New Zealand haunted-house thriller in 2015. Housebound was picked up earlier for U.S. distribution by XLrator Media.
Gerard Johnstone’s directorial debut stars Morgana O’Reilly, Rima Te Wiata and Glen-Paul Waru. The Kiwi genre film portrays a wayward teen forced by a court to return to her childhood home, only to find it is haunted.
Susan Curran, director of marketing and acquisitions for Anchor Bay Entertainment Canada, and Michael Paszt, managing partner of Raven Banner Entertainment, unveiled the Canadian deal on Friday. Luke Sharpe produced Housebound for Semi-Professional Pictures, with Ant Timpson, Daniel Story and Chris Lambert sharing the executive producer credits.
Housebound is a 2013 New Zealand comedy horror film that was written and directed by Gerard Johnstone, and his feature film directorial debut. The film had its world premiere on March 10, 2014 at South by Southwest and stars Morgana O’Reilly as a woman sentenced to house arrest in a potentially haunted house. The film received a universally positive response after its debut at SXSW.
