Ishant’s career-best haul
India squashed their lead after Indian bowler Ishant Sharma’s career-best six-wicket haul, achieving 100 for two at the lock of game on the first day of the second test next to New Zealand on Friday. Ishant was the pick of the visitor’s bowlers, who were provided initial use of the green and bouncy Basin Reserve wicket after captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won his seventh consecutive toss. The right-armer bowler took six for 51 and assisted bowl the hosts out for 192 after tea. Mohammed Shami gave admirable support with 4-70.
New Zealand tried to battle back in the afternoon session with Corey Anderson (24) and debutant Neesham assisting the hosts past 150.
