Lleyton Hewitt wins first round at Indian Wells
Lleyton Hewitt snatched a 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-3 win against Australian Matthew Ebden on Thursday night in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open and became the third lively ATP Tour player with victory of 600 matches. Before Hewitt, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are the only players to achieve the milestone.
Hewitt won his career’s 29th title against Federer at Brisbane, Australia this year and said his one of the most precious asset in his 15 years career is that,” never-say-die attitude; hang in there and fight for every point.”
He did that next to Ebden, trembling off the defeat of a 5-1 lead in the initial set to win the last five points of a tiebreaker, after Ebden tripped and fell following a ball. He ultimately holding serve to seal the game after being up 5-1 in the last set.
In other games, Tim Smyczek topped Jack Sock by 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 and 35-year-old Michael Russell bang Donald Young by 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in a further all-American fight.
In women’s match, Croatian Ajla Tomljanovic thrashed Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-4, 7-6 (2)and Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak beat Poland’s Urszula Radwanska 6-2, 6-0.
