Rafael Nadal and Stanislas Wawrinka win in Miami
World number one player Rafael Nadal maintained his cruel storm through the Sony Open on March 24, defeating Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin by 6-1, 6-0 to enter in the fourth round at Crandon Park. Nadal, who has played the final three times but never won the Miami title, defeat earlier Lleyton Hewitt in the second round before crushing Istomin in less than an hour in a centre court master class. Next up for the Nadal is going to face Italian 14th seed Fabio Fognini in the fourth round match on Tuesday, who proceeded with a 4-6 6-3 6-3 comeback victory against Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut.
Nadal said that, “I played a very complete match. No match is perfect but I did a lot of things very well. No mistakes, serving with good percentage, and playing a lot of winners. My movements were better than what I did last event events. That’s a very important thing for me.”
Also through to the next round is Australian Open winner Stanislas Wawrinka, who appeared sharp in a no-nonsense 7-5 6-4 victory against Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
