Sanjay Dutt leaves for Pune’s Yerwada Jail
Sanjay Dutt returns to Yerawada Jail in Pune on 22nd March as his extended parole came to an end on 21st March. Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has got parole three times in less than a year. Sanjay was out on parole since December 21, 2013. He had to return to Pune’s Yerawada jail on January 21, but he was given extension for another month till February 21 in his parole. The actor then got further one more month extension of his parole as his wife Manyata was recovering after her surgery. The actor’s 37-year-old wife Maanyata was hospitalised in January after she complained of lung complications.
Dutt is serving his 42 month jail term. In an embarrassment for the Maharashtra government, the Bombay High Court had on February 25 pulled it up for showing “extra diligence” to Dutt in the matter of granting him repeated paroles.
Sanjay first applied for parole as he had undergone his knee treatment. Second time he applied on the pretext of looking after his twin children in the absence of his wife (Maanyata), who was undergoing treatment in a city hospital. Third time he wanted to be by his wife’s side as she had undergone surgery and was recovering from it. The actor surrendered himself before the TADA court on May 16, 2013 and has been serving his remaining 42-month jail term after being convicted by the Supreme Court for illegal possession of arms in relation to the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
