Sri Lanka beat India in its first warm up match
MS Dhoni did not play in the warm-up match next to Sri Lanka due to a niggle in his right arm. India lost their first warm-up game in the World T20 in Bangladesh next to Sri Lanka by 5 runs. Chasing 154 runs, India were all out for 148 runs in 20 overs. Lasith Malinga bowled a luminous last over, winning 3 wickets and giving away only 6 runs in the course. Despite wickets falling in a stack, India’s skipper MS Dhoni, who was revisiting to the side after he missed Asia Cup due to side injury, did not come out to the crease, distribution the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra to bat instead.
At the after game appearance, Dhoni revealed the cause behind his choice to not bat in the match. He said that, “I had a small niggle in my right hand a couple of day’s back, so we had the luxury of giving it rest for a few more days. We still have one more practice game before the proper matches’ start, so there’s no point risking it. Also, it gave me an opportunity to give other batsmen a fair chance”.
