Vashu Bhagnani’s Karachi Airport Set Stolen
Vashu Bhagnani’s upcoming film, ‘Welcome To Karachi’ is in trouble again. After losing Rs 1.5 crore when Irrfan Khan opted out of ‘Welcome To Karachi’ at the last hour, the filmmaker managed to cut his losses by coaxing son Jackyy to step into Irrfan’s shoes. But now he’s lost another Rs 1.5 crore to a burglary last week.
Vashu Bhagnani had recreated Karachi airport at Birmingham airport for the shoot. But before the wrap, the local transporters he’d hired took off with three truckloads of clothes, lights and props.
Following a police complaint, a part of the booty has been recovered. “Fortunately, a guy at the airport had clicked pictures of the drivers when they were driving away with the loot and the cops managed to track them down. But I’m still staring at big losses,” sighed producer Vashu Bhagnani.
What’s worse is that Vashu had permission to shoot at the airport for three days in a section which had been specially cordoned off, with a separate entry and exit.”Following the theft, the shoot came to a standstill and I lost valuable time. We are now in London looking for a place to recreate the Karachi airport again,” he informed, adding, “Sourcing the costumes too will be a tedious task. I had to pay 150 members of the crew in Birmingham and now have to hire new homes in London.”
